Vegetating Extreme Slopes- Case studies-Do's & Don'ts

Michael Everhart

Education Track: Erosion and Sediment Control

Steep slopes are particularly susceptible to soil erosion due to heavy rain fall or heavy winds in some cases. There needs to be an adaptive approach at managing soil erosion. This presentation will go over multiple projects throughout New England dealing with different erosion issues. We will review scenarios of extreme slopes and the proccess that went into selecting the proper materials and how we implemented the solutions. Also, we will touch on underlying issues, such as ground water seeping through slopes. Additionally, we will look at a project that had a issue with heavy rain fall erosion, and how the right solution was chosen for the slopes we worked with. The permanent solutions offered by erosion control technology and practices will also be addressed thoroughly. This presentation will provide a toolbox for solutions to the toughest erosion control, sediment control, and soil stabilization challenges. Finally, the ground stabilization segment will discuss the remarkable evolution of solutions for the most challenging of site work problems. Those who attend this session can expect to leave with a broader understanding of currently available tools and practices in the important business of forward-thinking site management.
