IECA Education Committee

Job Description

The Education Committee Chair shall be appointed by the Education Vice President to the Board of Directors and will serve for a three-year term. The Education Subcommittee Chairs are appointed by the Education Committee Chair. The Education Committee Chair provides oversight of the Education Subcommittees, while serving on the Professional Development Committee (PDC) as a voting member. The chair may not serve in that capacity more than two (2) consecutive terms. In the event the duly appointed Education Committee Chair cannot fulfill the term, the Education Vice President to the Board of Directors will appoint a new chair. These positions are directly responsible for the portfolio of the Education Subcommittees. The Education Subcommittee Chairs, oversee their perspective Education Subcommittee and provides direction to the Chair on issues related to their perspective Education Subcommittee. All Education Subcommittee Chairs are members of the Education Committee and may select an Assistant Chair to serve in their absence of the Education Subcommittee Chair for subcommittee meetings. Persons serving in the above positions should have an in-depth knowledge of IECA's mission and the ability to communicate this mission through excellent leadership and technical skills. The primary purpose of these positions is to directly oversee those tasks associated with the above mentioned committee. The Education Committee Chair will serve as a voting member of the PDC.

Education Committee Chair

Duties and Responsibilities
  • The Education Committee Chair is a voting member of the Professional Development Committee.
  • The Education Committee Chair sets annual goals for the Education Committee.
  • The Education Committee Chair presides at all meetings of the Education Committee, including teleconferences and the meeting at the IECA Annual Conference.
    • There will be three teleconference calls and one live meeting at conference of the Education Committee. The committee includes the Education Chair, the Education Subcommittee Chairs, the Education Vice President to the Board of Directors, and the IECA Education Director. The Chair will determine the day and time of these calls in conjunction with the IECA Education Director.
  • The Education Committee Chair maintains working knowledge of each Education Subcommittee’s activities.
    • Subcommittee Chairs must submit a progress report three times a year to the Education Committee Chair and IECA's Education Director which will be submitted to the Professional Development Committee. Reports are due in March, August and December.
  • The Education Committee Chair assists the staff liaison with goal-setting, communication and follow up for each Education Subcommittee Chair.
  • The Education Committee Chair assesses the performance of each Education Subcommittee Chair on an annual basis.
  • The Education Committee Chair formalizes and distributes the agenda for the Education Committee meetings after receiving input from each Education Subcommittee Chair and IECA's staff liaison.
  • The Education Committee Chair serves as the official spokesperson of the Education Committee. The Education Committee Chair compiles each Education Subcommittees report and submits an overall committee progress report three times a year to IECA's Education Vice President and the IECA staff liaison.


Removal and Replacement

The Education Committee Chair may be removed for cause, including but not limited to, failure to perform duties. The chair must attend 70 percent of the year's scheduled meetings and/or offer comments on agenda items to the staff liaison if unable to attend the meetings. The chair must actively participate in all requests relevant to course review activity. The chair can be removed by the voting members of the Professional Development Committee by a 2/3 vote.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The four Education Subcommittee Chairs help set annual goals for their respective Education subcommittee and maintain the Education focus of their Education Subcommittee by providing a minimum of two articles for publication each year. The Environmental Connection magazine is published four times a year. Each Education Subcommittee will be assigned the task of identifying the key topic of a single issue and assist in providing content for that specific issue.

    • The Education Subcommittee Chairs investigate and search for qualified education programs and presenters in the education area of responsibility.
      • Local Chapters of IECA are to be contacted to provide recommendations for topics of importance in their region and to provide References for speakers and education programs that address those topics.
    • The Education Subcommittee Chairs recruit and enlist individuals for abstract and education course presentations in the education area of responsibility.
      • It is the desire to enlist educators from the ranks of the membership, and or to enlist educators based on recommendations from the membership.
    • The Education Subcommittee Chairs provide and enlist support for and from the local chapters throughout IECA.
      • Provide lines of communication between local chapters, instigating the sharing of information, education programs and opportunities.
    • The Education Subcommittee Chairs will meet three times per calendar year, via teleconference, for the purpose of preparing each of the three committee reports.
      • Subcommittee Chairs must submit a progress report three times a year to the Education Committee Chair and IECA's Education Director which will be submitted to the Professional Development Committee. Reports are due in March, August and December.
    • The Education Subcommittee Chairs maintain working knowledge of what each Education Subcommittee is doing.
      • Communication between the Education Subcommittees will be maintained by regular attendance at the scheduled and called meetings and participation in discussions concerning each area of education represented by the Education Committee.
      • Communication between Education Subcommittee members will be maintained by the development of quarterly meetings of the subcommittee which report on the completion of task assignments and provide support for the continued active search for education opportunities for the membership.


    Removal and Replacement

    When an Education Subcommittee Chair completes his or her term of service, the IECA Director of Education & Education Committee Chair will solicit their replacement. In the event that an Education Subcommittee Chair steps down or is removed during his or her term, the IECA Director of Education & Education Committee Chair will solicit a replacement or recommend their Assistant Chair.

    Subcommittee Member Duties

    1. The primary focus is to Identify and locate quality educational programs in your educational track area. Examples: contact local chapters to identify quality presentations that have been made at the chapter.
      1. Recruit presenters that you see at other conferences that are exceptional.
      2. Recruit associates and professional mentors to share their expertise.
    2. Participate in the review of online webinars proposed for presentation on the online educational programs of the IECA.  
    3. Participate in the review of Environmental Connection magazine articles as assigned by the IECA Director of Education
    4. In order to remain on the Education Committee, members must participate in at least one of the following:
      1. Provide an abstract for presentation at the IECA Annual Conference.
      2. Produce an article for publication in the Environmental Connection Magazine.
      3. Participate in the photo contest at the IECA Annual Conference.
      4. Provide a poster presentation at the IECA Annual Conference.
      5. Participate in the review of an online webinar or online course for IECA’s Online Education Program.
      6. Participate in the review of a magazine article for Environmental Connection
