Canada’s National Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection Standard: A Model for North America?
This presentation will take an inside look at the 1st edition of CSA/W202, Erosion and Sediment Control Inspection and Monitoring, to showcase how best practices were harmonized to create a national set of minimum requirements. It will highlight the ability of the standard to streamline project administration and eliminate guess work, and how such requirements lend themselves well to incorporation in to contracts and permits. Finally, the presentation will touch on efforts to drive uptake, plans for future ESC standards, as well as the various aspects of CSA/W202 that might serve as a model for future standardization efforts in the U.S. and elsewhere.

Healthy soil is a key component of long term erosion control and sustainable vegetation. One of the biggest ongoing challenges facing the erosion control and revegetation industries is the lack of healthy soil as a starting point on a project, as nearly all project sites are stripped down to nutritionally deficient subsoil layers incapable of supporting vegetation. This presentation will provide full details on what constitutes healthy soil in addition to providing comprehensive information about BST’s. Further and more importantly, this presentation will determine if BST are actually impacting soil health. In particular, multiple project sites that have been evaluated for various soil health parameters prior to and after BST application will be presented to determine soil health impacts.
Designing Effective Sediment Basins using Spreadsheets

This webinar will detail the various components and requirements to develop effective sediment basin designs. The webinar will provide an overview to “SEDspread”, a (FREE) user-friendly spreadsheet-based design tool for designers to appropriately size sediment basin parameters. The workbook allows users to input site specific parameters and constraints to determine: basin capacity and configuration, surface skimmer size and dewatering rate, auxiliary spillway design, and baffle configuration. The workbook includes a summary sheet that provides users with schematics of the designed basin, available as a supplement to facilitate effective communication between designers and contractors for constructing/installing the basin.
